The Gunnedah Garden Club enjoyed a final gathering for the year on Monday by celebrating with lunch at the Railway Hotel. The function room looked festive with Christmas decorations and even had a Christmas tree. Members feasted on a traditional Christmas menu of pork and turkey, plum pudding and pavlova. The crackers popped, party hats worn, jokes told, then carols were sung.
Prizes were awarded to the Fruit and Vegetable Comp winners of the year.
Flower Competition: First Helen Murrell, Second Julia Withers, and third was a tie between Ann Penrose and Sue Walker
Vegetable Competition: First Fay Byrne, second Ann Penrose and third Julia Withers
Donations for the ‘Christmas Bowl’ were collected and the recipient selected this year is little Tori Kember, to assist with medical expenses.
The day ended with a hilarious skit, performed by Ellen Mitchell and Elaine Bridge, “There’s a hole in the bucket dear Liza.” There was lots of chatter and laughter with members having a great time before going home with a little gift.
The club wishes everyone a happy and safe Christmas and will resume in February with its annual general meeting.
