About 35 girls aged from five to 14 descended on Donnelly Fields last Friday for the School Holiday Colour Bash.

Run by Cricket NSW using Play Our Way government funding, the free program introduces girls to cricket in a fun, entertaining and colourful environment.

Most of the girls were from the Gunnedah Shire, while there were a couple of visitors from Newcastle.

Some of the participants were new to cricket, while some had played junior cricket at school or club level (or both).

There were beginner level games, and skills and drills which included batting, bowling, catching, throwing, and running between the wickets.

Watermelon and icy poles were consumed during breaks in the hot weather, and most participants couldn’t resist the chance to spray each other with water and powder of various colours.
