Former Gunnedah-based cyclist Kurt Eather has made a strong start to the year, after last year featured many podium placings.
The now Central Coast-based Eather competed in last month’s national championships in Perth, and finished third in the criterium.
Fifty-one cyclists started the race, with 22 abandoning it due to the hot pace.
Next, Eather was off to start his ProVelo Super League series in Adelaide, with the SA Kick It taking place from January 24 to 26.
In this he finished 21st out of 136 in the time trial, third out of 139 in the criterium and third out of 120 in the road race, enabling him to finish fourth overall in the three events.
Eather made history on February 2 when he won his third Joseph Sunde Memorial race at Heffron Park, having also won last year and in 2023.
On February 8, Eather won the Elite Men’s Victorian Criterium Championship.
Eather will compete in the ProVelo Spirit of Tasmania Cycling tour from today (Thursday) until Sunday, before contesting the ProVelo Melbourne to Warrnambool road race on February 28 and March 1. This is one of the world’s oldest races, starting at Avalon Airport and covering 267km.
Eather will subsequently head to
Sydney for the Harbour City GP from March 6 to 8, which is also part of the ProVelo series.
Following a race from Grafton to Inverell on March 14 and 15, the ProVelo Super League series will conclude with the Queensland tour from March 20 to 22.
After all that, Eather will head to Brisbane for the national track cycling championships from March 24 to 29 – a change from road racing to track racing.
Eather has also been selected in the NSW elite squad to compete at the Auscycling track national championships at the Anna Meares Velodrome.
