Gunnedah enjoyed a fine start to this year’s North West Regional Matchplay (RMS) tennis series, as round one took place at the Armidale courts last Sunday.
Four of Gunnedah’s 14 competitors placed first, while another two gained runner-up status.
After last year’s divisions were U8s, U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s, a change in format this year resulted in players beyond 10 years of age being placed into tiers according to their Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).
Gunnedah’s top placegetters at Armidale were Charli Scott (U10 girls), Lachlan Finnerty (boys tier 2), Allie Neilsen (girls tier 3) and Katharyn Mitchell (girls tier 4).
Harry Tudgey finished runner-up to Lachlan in boys tier 2, while Molly Murphy was runner-up to Allie in girls tier 3.
Gunnedah’s other competitors were Tyler Finnerty, Adalie Muddle, Balin Muddle, Sophie Neilsen, Belle Nichols, Jonty Nichols, Zahra Scott and Zac Tunbridge.
