The Gunnedah Show Society has launched its 2026 Show Representative Competition, inviting locals to take part in one of the region’s most anticipated community events.
The annual competition, which celebrates community spirit and connection to agriculture, is open across four categories: junior representatives aged 5–9, young representatives aged 10–14, showgirl entrants aged 15–17, and young women aged 18–26.
Organisers say the program offers more than just a chance to compete, giving participants the opportunity to build confidence, develop communication skills and become more involved in their local community.
Event organiser Mel Bartlett said the competition continues to play an important role in showcasing local talent and strengthening ties to Gunnedah’s agricultural heritage.
“This competition is a celebration of talent, community spirit, and the rich agricultural heritage of Gunnedah,” she said. “We encourage individuals from all walks of life to join us in this exciting journey, where every participant is valued and celebrated.
“Chennelle’s success shows that with determination and ability, a young person from Gunnedah can shine and go all the way to Sydney.”
Ms Bartlett pointed to the success of 2024 entrant Chennelle Winsor, who progressed from the local title to win the Zone 4 Finals and represent the region at the 2025 Sydney Royal Show.
The competition will officially kick off with a soirée from 5pm on Saturday, April 11 at the Courthouse Hotel in Gunnedah. The event is open to entrants, sponsors and supporters, and aims to provide a relaxed setting for people to learn more about the program and connect ahead of the show. Please RSVP by April 4 to Mel Bartlett – [email protected]
The soirée provides an opportunity to learn more about the competition and connect with others involved in the show. For further information and registration details, visit www.gunnedahshowsociety.com.au or contact convenor Mel Bartlett at 0408 816 550 or email [email protected].
