An action-packed Gunnedah Show is back this weekend, with the much-loved event offering something for all ages.

This year’s show, which is celebrating 138 years, kicks off with the opening of the art and photography exhibition.

The fun of the show continues on Friday and throughout the weekend.

Show president Kath Wilkinson has encouraged people to see what’s on offer.

“Under the circumstances, it’s shaping up to be wonderful,” Mrs Wilkinson said.

“All of our committee, our helpers and the people who run the sections of the show have done a wonderful job.”

Mrs Wilkinson also heaped praise on the various organisations and businesses which continue to support the show through sponsorship.

Mrs Wilkinson acknowledged that the show society was concerned with the ongoing situation regarding fuel prices and supply, however, believes the show will be well-supported as it’s a highlight on people’s calendars.

“I think people will come along for an enjoyable time at the show,” she said.

“Considering the current climate, I think the show will be absolutely wonderful.”

Mrs Wilkinson said the society was thrilled with what’s on offer this year, particularly for children.

An array of entertainment is on offer including Troppo Bob the Magician, Fairy La La Land, the Fizzics Science Show and more.

The showmen’s guild will also return with a variety of amusement rides for all ages.

In the pavilions, children’s art and literature has seen a great turnout in entries.

Mrs Wilkinson is hopeful the other sections will also receive good support.

For those who enjoy photography and art, Mrs Wilkinson has encouraged people to go to Thursday night’s official opening of the popular exhibition.

If you’re looking to stock up on goodies, a great variety of trade stalls forms part of the Gunnedah Show offering.

Other highlights, and much-loved elements of the show, include the ute display and vintage cars. The rodeo and fireworks display, two popular attractions, will also be back.

The ever-popular lolly drop will also form part of the offering.

A new addition to the show is the Turner Cycles and Outdoors Jackpot Motorbike Barrel Racing.

“The new barrel racing entertainment will be so exciting,” Mrs Wilkinson said.

Equine enthusiasts are well catered for with the showjumping and horse events.

This year’s Gunnedah Show is one not to miss.

“It’s very important that people come and have a great day out at the show,” Mrs Wilkinson said.

Mrs Wilkinson thanked all of the volunteers who give up their time to ensure the district has a great show.

Tickets to the Gunnedah Show cost $20 per day for adults, and $10 for children (aged five to 17) and aged pensioners/seniors.

Memberships are also on offer, and must be purchased before April 17.
