Gloryess recorded a win for Gunnedah horse trainer Gavin Groth for the second time this year, as the four-year-old gelding won the sixth and final race at last Saturday’s Warialda meet.
Owned by Brendan Smith and Tom Torrens, Gloryess won by 2.51 lengths after being the fifth favourite in a field of six while the distance was 1700m on a track rated a Firm 1.
Gloryess’s previous win – at Tamworth on January 31 – came after the gelding had long odds in a field of 13.
Since then the horse had placed sixth, 11th and seventh, with Billy Cray the jockey in all bar one of its past five races.
Groth had four other runners at Warialda last Saturday, with Lost Flowers and Northern Glow placing third and fourth respectively in a field of five in race one before
Slayrider placed last in a field of seven in race two.
While Gloryess reigned supreme in the final race, the Groth-trained Sian placed fifth after having slightly shorter odds than the victor.
