Harry Wilson announced in Wallabies squad to take on Springboks

Harry Wilson has been announced in the Wallabies squad to face the Springboks in Perth later this month.

The Wallabies unveiled its squad list last week for the Flight Centre Series Test against South Africa.

The stage is set for an intense battle between Australia and the back-to-back world champions

“We’ve had some good, intense matches, but we’re certainly stepping up another level when we come up against Springboks in a fortnight,” coach Les Kiss said, as reported by the Wallabies.

“We’re aware of that, we know we have to be better in certain areas, and we’re working hard to make sure we can improve on that. They’ll be in our backyard so we’ll be up for the fight.”

The Wallabies return home to Australia after a win and a draw against Argentina and earlier victories against Japan.

Wilson, a former Red Devil, skippered the Wallabies in their successive wins against Japan, but was rested in the first of the two Argentinian games against Los Pumas.

Kiss was reported as saying it was the right time to give Wilson a break.

Wilson lined up for the 28-all draw against Los Pumas at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.

Addressing the media after that game, Wilson said he had been proud of the squad.

He acknowledged there had been some disappointment that there was a missed opportunity to win the second game.

“But to bring back the trophy is great,” he said.

“We haven’t done that over here before.

“As a group, we want to be winning trophies and we’ve obviously had a few wins in a row.

“And to get a draw … isn’t ideal … but to bring a trophy home, hopefully it brings a bit of momentum and some confidence in the group going into the Springboks.”

The Wallabies now turn their sights to their match against the Springboks at Optus Stadium, Perth, on 27 September.

The last time the two teams came head-to-head was during the Wallabies’ visit to South Africa in 2025.

The Wallabies ended a 62-year drought at Ellis Park with a stunning 38–22 win in the first of the two South African matches.

A week later, the Springboks claimed a 30–22 win at DHL Stadium.

Next month, the Wallabies will face the All Blacks at Auckland on 10 October and then at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on 17 October.
