Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club members celebrated their 36th birthday at The Gunnedah Hotel last week, with Judy Sills and Adrienne Stubbs cutting the celebratory cake.
The long serving members have contributed countless volunteer hours to the women’s friendship group since its earliest days.
Formed in October 1990, Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club is part of the Australia-wide network of women’s friendship groups formed under the umbrella of the Smith Family children’s charity. Three members were presented with service badges by secretary Linda Lee, including Judy Sills (40 years), Kate Knight (20 years) and Sue Braby (10 years).
The club sponsors three Learning for Life students and is actively involved in fundraising activities to raise donations for the charity’s programs.
With the theme ‘Feathers and Boas’ in the club’s colours of purple and teal, the evening was a great success with a surprise list of trivia questions from the Year 1990. With two teams finishing on equal scores, trivia maestro Anne McMahon came up with a tie-breaker quickly answered by guest Sam Hillier to bring victory to her table.
Members recently enjoyed a social gathering of Sunday brunch at Maverick Bistro with the next social gathering planned for Trelawney’s in November.
Upcoming events include Peel Evening VIEW Club’s Spring High Tea, Gunnedah Day VIEW Club’s Christmas luncheon, and Manilla VIEW Club’s Melbourne Cup luncheon.
Program officer Ann Thomas spoke about the response to the newspaper report of last month’s guest speaker Megan Dries with the publicity picked up by NSW Centrelink and National VIEW resulting in great publicity for the club.
Next month’s dinner meeting will be held at The Gunnedah Hotel with the theme ‘Hats and Fascinators’ celebrating the Melbourne Cup – the race that stops the nation.
