Spotlight: KINGDOM FOR A HORSE

Looking for a unique Christmas gift for someone special?

Come along to the library on Wednesday 28 October at 3.30pm and make a Wool Horse Keyring! For just $3 you can learn how to create these very cute, very functional key keepers. We all know that a horse is the second most loyal animal (after a dog), so who better to guard the keys to your kingdom? Bookings are essential, so call 6740 2190 to reserve your place.

Spotlight: INTER-LIBRARY LOANS

Did you know that the library has over 15,000 items in its collection? Plenty of choice – from picture books, fiction and non-fiction, large-print and audiobooks, magazines and graphic novels – but what if you are looking for a particular book and we don’t have a copy?

This is where we use Inter-Library Loans, working within a network of libraries in New South Wales to fill your request. Come in and ask the staff for the title you want; we will find out who holds a copy and ask if we can borrow it (hopefully they say yes!), the library will send the item to us and then we can loan it to you. When you are finished, just return the item to us and we will send it back to the owner library. There may be a $5 charge for some Inter-Library Loans to cover postage costs – but we will let you know beforehand.

Spotlight: NEW BOOKS

A new Jodi Picoult hits the shelves with Hollow Bones (AF PIC). Molly and her husband Jesse are no strangers to trauma. Molly lost her mum on 9/11, and now heads a disaster response group. Jesse’s family was torn apart by a horrendous court case, and now works as a police polygraph expert. But when a medical emergency exposes a terrible secret, they stand to lose everything…

Mitchell: Father of the Spitfire (BIOG 623 BEA) by Paul Beaver tells the story of the man behind the machine. Reginald Mitchell was a visionary engineer with a passion for speed. He is best known for creating the Spitfire, but never lived to see it in action. Mitchell was one of the great design leaders of the 20th century and helped to change the course of history.

A meditation on love affairs and lost chances is Laws of Love and Logic (AF CUR) by Debra Curtis. Jane has a plan – graduate, go to college, marry, and start a family of her own – but one night will throw all her plans off course. Is it the end of her dreams? Or could it be the beginning of another?

“Good books don’t give up all their secrets at once.” – Stephen King
