FOR the past few months, local volunteers have been gathering for weekly working bees to get the racetrack and amenities in order ahead of the Wean Picnic Races, held on Saturday, 11 July.

Putting the new fence in the inner ring, cleaning out the clubhouse, stables and oodles of painting were just some of the jobs ticked off the list before the big day.
All the hard work paid off, whether it was lending a hand on a casual Saturday or contributing daily, the 2026 Wean Races were hailed a big success.

The dedicated volunteers said the process was rewarding, especially when they witnessed the smiles on the faces of happy racegoers enjoying the popular event.
