THE Gunnedah Garden Club’s June meeting was busy and it was great to see several visitors popping in.
Lyn Sanson spoke about the planned trip to the Carroll Gap Farm House in August, which the club is looking forward to.
Several members attended the Dungowan Garden Club’s birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the luncheon.
The theme of the day was Teddy Bears’ Picnic, and the stage at the hall was decorated beautifully. The guest speaker’s topic was Clivias.

Flower competition results included first place for Coral Lorimer’s gerbera (has short stems). Ann Penrose’s rose (Heart of Gold, has lovely perfume) tied for second place with Sue Walker’s pure white orchid (was in full bloom when she returned from vacation … so must thrive on neglect!).
Vegetable competition results were first for Julia Withers’ artichoke (has sunflower-like flowers on tall stems. Scrub, bake or boil. Pickle or use in a soup).
Second place went to Ann Penrose’s baby spinach (it just grows, says Ann).

Third place for Robyn Capp’s spinach (takes 10 weeks from seed to picking).
A new item on the agenda was problem plants, hoping for advice from seasoned gardeners.
Julia Withers’ orchid was not growing, but after planting garlic cloves alongside, it is now flourishing with new leaves.
She will later remove the garlic plants in the orchid pot.

Marg Kersley’s rubber tree leaves are yellowing and have brown spots.
It was suggested they might have mites and to try using white oil.
Members shall have to wait and see if that works.
The raffle was won by Robyn Capp, who chose the potting mix, and Carol Smith won the gift.
