Four Gunnedah South Public School students and talented young tennis players were recently crowned state champions.
Lachy Finnerty, Cooper Cannon, Adalie Muddle and Phoebe Neilsen participated in the Victor J Kelly knockout finals on 31 August.

After eight sets (four singles, two doubles and two mixed doubles), both schools were locked at four sets each.
On a countback, Gunnedah South were crowned state champions, winning by five games.
It was a great team effort by all players, with three of the four being part of last year’s team which finished as runners-up.
In a fantastic effort, Lachy and Adalie didn’t lose a singles or mixed doubles match throughout the tournament.
Just prior to the Monday, six Gunnedah juniors made their way to Newcastle to compete in the Regional State League finals.
Lachy Finnerty, Millie Lyle, Adalie Muddle, Allie Neilsen, Harry Tudgey and Molly Murphy were each selected to represent the North West region for the event on 29 and 30 August.
Facing the top players from five other regions (North East, Northumberland, Central West, South East and South West), it was a great weekend of tennis.
The North West region narrowly missed out on third place, finishing up in fourth position.
Lachy Finnerty was a standout, winning five from five of his singles events, while the other juniors each won two or three of their singles matches.
This event also showcases doubles and mixed doubles, making it a great weekend of tennis with the rare opportunity to participate as a team.
Managers Dale Martin, Gabby O’Gorman and Aaron Osmond all travelled from Gunnedah to support the young team throughout the weekend.
