Artists are being invited to submit works for a special exhibition in memory of late Gunnedah artist and cultural precinct staff member Alexander ‘Xander’ Bayliss.
Mr Bayliss worked at Gunnedah Shire Council’s cultural precinct for many years and was an animation artist in his own right before his unexpected death in April.
The Xander Memorial Men’s Exhibition will be held at the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery and will focus on Mr Bayliss’s artistic speciality – the male form.
Gunnedah Shire Council economy and growth manager Susan Frater said the exhibition was a fitting way to honour Mr Bayliss’s memory.
“Alex was a valued member of our team, and he is sorely missed,” she said.
“Across the North West, Alex, or Xander as he was known in the creative community, was recognised for his artistic displays of the male physique, using shading to highlight dark and light.
“His mother, Kylie Scott, says he started drawing at a very young age and was always creating pictures, not always heeding her advice to add more colour.
“This is the gallery’s first community exhibition dedicated to men and the male form, so I encourage creators, including photographers, sculptors, painters, printmakers and animation artists, to explore the theme by submitting works for this special event.
“All creative submissions are welcome and artwork may also be for sale.”
Artists can submit works from 9am to 5pm on Monday 12 October.
All artworks must be delivered to the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery ready to hang, along with a completed artist submission form.

The Xander Memorial Men’s Exhibition will open at 6pm on Friday 16 October at the Creative Arts Gallery.
It will run until Friday 20 November.
