In the dog high jump, Michaela Piper and her Belgian Malinois named Togo, won with a top height of 2.41 metres.

Although not quite at Togo’s personal best of 2.60m, his Morisset-based handler was happy with the win.

“He’s born to jump,” Ms Piper said.

When he is not competing in the high jump, Togo is involved in “personal protection”.

Runner-up in the high jump was Darcie Westbrook with his German Shepard-cross Kelpie named Roo.

Mr Darcie said Roo was a regular on the New England North West show circuit, having recently won the high jump at Tamworth, Manilla and Bingara shows.

The loveable pooch often accompanied his owner to work in his job as a tradesman, so enjoyed ample high jump practice.

“He’s always jumping on the back of the tipper,” Mr Westbrook said.

Pet show convenor Kurtis Doyle said this was his fourth time hosting the event at the Gunnedah Show.

He fielded about 35 total entries across all categories this year, including the dog high jump.

Nineteen dogs and their handlers contested the best dressed stakes this year.

“A massive thanks to all families, contestants and pets who came along and participated … bring on next year,” he said.
