Gunnedah Can Assist has received a $5000 donation from Club Gunnedah.
Charity volunteer Linda Lee said the money from the club will go toward advertising at The Civic.
“It’s just amazing … because we are not using any funds [for advertising] that we’ve fundraised to help our local people,” Linda said.
She said the cinema’s advertisement has been a big help in getting the
word out about the cancer focused charity.
This is the third year the charity has accepted a donation from Club Gunnedah.
“We pride ourselves on saying [we are] local volunteers, assisting local people,” Linda said.
“We receive donations so that we are able to give that back.”
“It does not go into research, it’s financially assisting [people].”
Club Gunnedah also supports the charity through hosting meetings and functions for it.
Can Assist Gunnedah gave out $36,400 in the last financial year
to help local people affected by cancer.
“That is through our volunteers fundraising, people donating to us, and the generosity of the community,” Linda said.
Club Gunnedah bar manager Shane Rampling and president John
Sturgess were at the club on Wednesday to speak with Can Assist volunteers.
“We are just happy to support Can Assist,” John said.
“It is a fantastic cause because [cancer] affects nearly every family,” Shane said.
