The Gunnedah Red Devils women ended a four-game losing streak as they defeated the Inverell Highlanders 26-12 at Inverell Rugby Park last Saturday.

Needing a win to keep their finals hopes alive, the Red Devils crept into fourth place; one point ahead of the fifth-placed Barraba and one point behind the third-placed Moree while Inverell remained second-last.

Gunnedah led 7-0 following a converted try to Abby Nortrup, before an unconverted try to Inverell’s Matilda Thompson about 10 minutes later was quickly followed by a converted try to Gunnedah’s Madisan Rogers.

A converted try to Inverell’s Ella Gleeson cut Gunnedah’s lead back to two points, but it was as close as the Highlanders would get.

Gunnedah’s Grace Farmer scored the next try, before Rogers registered her second converted try to complete the scoring.

Rogers, Sarah Cavanagh and Rhi Adamson were rated as the best players for the winners.
