Three members of Gunnedah Speedway Club picked up an award each at the annual Racing Sedans Australia (RSA) awards night last Saturday.

Paul Mitchell was named Volunteer of the Year, and Justin Partridge was awarded the President’s Award while his sister Sophie Partridge was named Junior New Stars Driver of the Year.

More than 80 people from various speedway clubs across NSW converged at the Gilgandra Services Club for the occasion, while Gunnedah Speedway Club member Ray Darcey was the compere.

The candidates for the awards were nominated by a mix of peers, family, friends, and track officials, with RSA making the decisions according to the supporting information with each nomination.

Justin, who is the Gunnedah Speedway Club president, said his award win was unexpected while he was grateful to the people around him.

“I personally cannot thank everyone (enough) who has been there along this road,” he said.

“I love what I do and I have an amazing team beside me which makes our life that much easier.

“Bring on a bigger and better 2025-2026 season.”

RSA president Sue Healey was full of praise for Justin, saying he deserved the award.

“You put your hands up no matter what, you help no matter what, you’re always reliable when we need you, you give up your racing to help RSA and that is why you deserve it,” she said.

Justin meanwhile was very complimentary about Gunnedah’s other award winners; the club president saying Paul was “an amazing asset” while the club was blessed to have him.

“Since retiring he has taken on massive roles with helping out anyone and everyone he can within our club,” Justin said.

“Paul dedicates so much time to making sure we all have cars on the track, and his time spent at the track doing the same is second to none.”

As for Sophie, Justin said, “Where do I start?

“From the start of the season to now, what a change in her style and ability.

“With many role models, she has taken every bit of advice given her way to the next level.

“She has showed true sportsmanship this season, and coming away with multiple wins shows everyone that there are big things to come for her.

“(I’m) super proud of the season she has had.”
