The Gunnedah Motoring Enthusiasts (GME) Car Club is planning for 2025, following a successful 2024.
GME played its part in the annual Weeks of Speed Festival in March with events at Gunnedah Aerodrome, with the venue being part of the MG Car Club National Convention.
GME followed up a Motorkhana with a 1/2 mile Tarmac Sprint; two very successful events which generated $218,000 of tourism and community impact into the regional economy.
Club members enjoyed an observation rally, conducted around various local roads leading to a midday meal and guided tour of Siding Springs Observatory. This set the scene for hosting the final round of the NSW State Hillclimb Championship at the Historic Apex Drive ‘Mount Porcupine’ venue. Many visitors enjoyed what Gunnedah has to offer.
During the annual general meeting (AGM) in October, Peter Holmes stepped up as incoming president while David Garth became vice-president following a couple of productive years as president.
Others on the committee were Stacey Mitchell (secretary), Tina Swain (treasurer), Geoff Hood (event secretary) and Maureen Steed (Motorsport Australia delegate).
Club awards went to Tina Swain (Keith Singh Memorial for best all-rounder) and Graham Sunderland (Stuart Little Memorial Havin a Go award).
GME is planning a showground gravel Motorkhana for March 2 (2025) – a bit of fun for the sideshow area of Gunnedah Showgrounds – as well as incorporating a new event at Gunnedah Aerodrome for the Weeks of Speed Festival.
Together with the planned 1/2 mile single vehicle release sprint in late March, a demonstration ‘Flying 500’ will involve vehicles having a rolling start at 40 kmh, travelling more than 500 metres with expected terminal speed for road registered or competition vehicles in the vicinity of 150 to 300 kmh.
The next general meeting is scheduled for January 15.
