Swimming Gunnedah topped the points table at the recent New England North West Short Course Swimming Championships in Inverell.

Clocking more than 5100 points, 29 club swimmers put in some stellar performances at the newly opened aquatic centre.

The squad clinched 74 gold, 44 silver and 27 bronze medals along with an outstanding 124 personal best (PB) times over the two days.

Club records fell to Jessica Dalessandro (7) in the 100m freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke, 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley; Philipa Wark (10 years 50m butterfly and 200m breaststroke); Aiden Sills (8 years 100m breaststroke); and Jessica Broadhead (15 years 200m freestyle).

There was also some fast and furious sprinting during the freestyle and medley relays where Gunnedah competed in 14 relay races.

The short course swimming season is nearing an end, with the Inverell-based Championships one of the last carnivals to secure times for next month’s NSW short course state titles in Homebush.
