Six large grass trees now have pride of place at Pensioners Hill in Gunnedah.

The new trees were transported last week from a property near Inverell and brought to Gunnedah to be planted at Pensioners Hill.

The new project was undertaken by Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group (GULG) which was recently awarded a $7500 grant by the Australian Government.

GULG said the grass trees reflect the natural history of the area and the connection with Aboriginal people.

Four trees are located adjacent the track to the railway reservoir while the other two are next to the playground and near the eagle sculpture.

Meanwhile, new murals are also being painted on the former railway water reservoir at the base of Pensioners Hill.

Artists Ron Long and Heesco Khosnaran have been busy working on the tank since September 6 and are making good progress.

GULG representatives expect the murals will take another three weeks to complete dependent on the weather.
