Eleven members of the Gunnedah Garden Club joined some members of the Manilla social group and enjoyed a visit to the garden of Lee Amity and his partner Trish on Saturday, September 13.
The day started with a morning tea on arrival, followed by a talk from Lee about the Manilla area and the many improvements they have made since purchasing the 100-acre property in 2020.
Weeds are Lee’s specialty and he had everyone testing their knowledge and trying to identify the different weeds shown, with prizes for the lucky winners.
Trish took her visitors for a walk around her garden, showing some very interesting ways of using recycled wares.
Garden club members agreed the views of the property and Namoi River were stunning, as was the garden, with rose bushes, raised garden beds, herbs and vegetables and many plants.
Michael Blackwell was delighted to find a hen with her new chicks. At the conclusion of the visit, president Joan Harwood thanked Lee and Trish and presented them with a plant.
After lunch, some continued on to Manilla to check out its mural, then on to the weir before travelling home via Kelvin, with Sandra Tydd showing the way.
This was a new experience for several members, who had not been to visit these places before.
The club thanked Lyn Sanson for organising the day, which members said was enjoyed by all who attended.
