NSW Health has confirmed Gunnedah Hospital’s $53 million redevelopment is on track for completion by the end of this year.
Construction started in July 2024 before the first concrete pour was delivered last October. This year’s major work includes completion of the roof.
A Health Infrastructure spokesperson this week said opening was yet to be finalised but the redevelopment would be complete by the end of 2025.
“The $53 million Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment is on track for completion by the end of the year,” a Health Infrastructure spokesperson told the Gunnedah Times.
“It will include a new acute services building, housing an expanded emergency department and a modern birthing, maternity and inpatient unit, to support contemporary models of care.
“Construction is well progressed, and building commissioning is currently underway.
“The opening date for the new acute services building will be confirmed after an operational commissioning period, which will be carried out by Hunter New England Local Health District. These activities will ensure the new building and staff are well prepared and ready to welcome patients.
“We look forward to sharing more details with the Gunnedah community as work progresses for the opening of new and enhanced health facilities.”
The update follows criticism about the withdrawal of health services from the hospital’s original masterplan.
Health services such as renal dialysis and chemotherapy, among others, were originally included in the new Gunnedah Hospital design but later scrapped by government due to “escalating building costs”.
