The Gunnedah CWA was given the opportunity to speak with Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales during her visit to town last week.

Members spoke with her about some of the issues CWA branches within Namoi group advocate within the shire.

The Namoi group includes Tambar Springs, Gunnedah, Quirrindi, Werris Creek, Manilla, Coohli, Willala, Bellata and Maules Creek.

Below were the main points members said they discussed with the NSW Governor.

1. Need for a 24-hour police station and more police.

2. Gaol time for repeat offenders.

3. Maternity ward closure – women travel to Tamworth to give birth.

4. Chairs for chemotherapy/dialysis not included with Gunnedah’s new hospital, despite it being previously promised.

5. Hospital helipad needs updating.

6. Underfunding of local government means roads and infrastructure cannot be maintained. Local flood damage (pot holes etc) cannot be repaired. Huge road usage by grain, stock and heavy haulage (mining) trucks.

7. Narrabri Gas Project not supported. Members described it as a threat to water quality and possible damage to aquifers (farming).
