Level one water restrictions will be in place for Gunnedah and Curlewis from 12am on Thursday, January 8.

Gunnedah Shire Council announced the water measures on Wednesday afternoon as the 10-day average water consumption for the Gunnedah and Curlewis water supply had exceeded 10ML per day. This means that level one restrictions need to be imposed as a result of council’s Drought Management Plan.

“Under this level of restriction, the impact on residences and their gardens is relatively minor as the focus is on general awareness of water consumption in the community, rather than trying to achieve significant reductions in usage,” council said in its announcement.

“The key measure is to limit the hours that fixed hoses and sprinklers can be used. Level one restrictions limit the hours that fixed hoses and sprinklers can be used to 2 hours per day (between 6-8pm during daylight saving, or 5-7pm during all other times).”
