Last week on Monday, January 26, Meals on Wheels hosted its annual Australia Day luncheon.
Held at Club Gunnedah, guests were able to have a reprieve from the sweltering heat and sit down to enjoy entertainment from local music group the Uke-Alypts, as well as an impromptu performance from the 2026 Australia Day ambassador, Anthony Snape.
“[Meals on Wheels] always extends an invitation to the luncheon to the Ambassador, and we were so thankful that Anthony was able to attend,” Colleen Fuller OAM said.
“We all especially enjoyed his live performance over lunch as well.”
Approximately 80 guests attended, although numbers were affected due to the heat.
More than 70 lucky door prizes were handed out as well, with almost everyone from the day walking away with a prize.
Guests enjoyed a hot meal of either roast beef or chicken schnitzel with vegetables, which Mrs Fuller said were very popular.
Steven Hopwood, Young Citizen of the Year, also attended and gave a speech thanking the volunteers for their hard work and dedication to Meals on Wheels.
“It was just a great day all round,” Mrs Fuller said.
“Everybody enjoyed the day and the feedback has been very positive.”
