Gunnedah High School students Quade Young, Darcie Crane and Charlie Kemp competed in the North West Secondary Swimming Championship at the Armidale pool on Tuesday last week, with Quade qualifying for the next level.
Quade (pictured) competed in the 13 years boys age group, and Darcie was in the 13 years girls while Charlie was in the 15 years boys.
The highest three placegetters in each event were chosen to represent North West at the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association (CHSSA) Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) from April 29 to May 1.
Quade qualified in five events after placing first in the 100m backstroke, second in the 200m individual medley (IM), and third in the 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle.
Quade came close to selection for another event, having placed fourth in the 50m freestyle.
Charlie placed seventh in his only event, which was the 100m breaststroke.
Darcie competed in four events, with a best placing of seventh in the 100m freestyle.
Gunnedah High School sports coordinator Abbey Ruttley said Quade, Charlie and Darcie represented the school with pride, demonstrating excellent effort and commitment throughout the event.
“They showed positive sportsmanship by respecting officials and competitors and maintaining a great attitude,” she said.
“Their behaviour reflected very well on the school.”
