Gunnedah Showgrounds was buzzing with the Moree Kennel Club and the New England Ladies Kennel Club hosting the annual dog show.

Across three days, five shows of All Breeds Championships were held.

Sharan Norman, the secretary of New England Ladies Kennel Club, said that people really enjoyed the weekend.

Although numbers were healthy, the show usually has more traffic.

“We had just under 200 enter for the two Friday shows, about 220 for the two Saturday shows and then just under 200 for Sunday. However, it is usually bigger,” she said.

“We’ve had very good comments from exhibitors saying how well it flowed and the judging was finished at an early time for them and they were very happy with the prizes too.”

Prizes included cash, a sash and vouchers which go into the winners account to then enter into more dog shows down the track.

“All the best winners received a voucher into the show manager account where you enter your dog,” Sharon said.

“So, we use show manager credits and that goes back into [the winners’] account, then they can enter into another dog show from that credit and that builds up whenever they get it at a dog show.”

There were seven groups competing across the weekend, starting with toys, terriers, gundogs, hounds, working dogs, utility, and non-sporting.

From there, the judges pick the best two dogs from their group, where they then go down by classes and the best out of that group then compete for best in show.

More shows are coming up in April run by the Gunnedah and District Kennel Club, and another show in June and October.
