The Gunnedah Red Devils men’s and women’s teams will have their first hit-outs of the year when they compete in this Saturday’s Tamworth Test at the Tamworth Rugby Union Club (aka ‘The Nest’).
Both Red Devils teams are expected to have at least 20 players, as Gunnedah opposes the Tamworth Magpies and Newcastle Wanderers in each grade.
The Tamworth Pirates, Barraba Rams and Scone Brumbies are also set to take part in the day of pre-season action, with the men’s matches comprising 20-minute halves while the women’s matches have 15-minute halves.
Continuing Red Devils men’s players are likely to include Lachie McArthur, Ben Hamparsum, Jack Inder and Billy Tregoning, with coach Daniel Martin saying the occasion was about “blowing the cobwebs out, getting the ball in hand and making contact”.
Continuing women’s players are likely to include Madisan Rogers, Abby Nortrup, Elsie Hunt, Malia Mikaele, Viliana Mikaele, Sarah Cavanagh, Kate O’Donnell, Jordan Mitchell and Susie Pym.
With the club having quite a few new faces, Rogers said “we are excited to see the teams’ capabilities grow with the new additions”.
