Runner-up title for cricketing duo

Gunnedah-based cricketers Zoe Fleming and Marnee Walters were part of the NSW women’s team which reached the final in this year’s National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) in Mackay. It was the second successive year in which Fleming and Walters played together in the NICC in Mackay, with NSW finishing third last year after Fleming played in NSW titles from 2017 to 2021. Pirates pounce on Red Devils in women’s fixture

The Red Devils women came crashing back to earth last Saturday, as they fell to a hefty 56-19 defeat against the Tamworth Pirates in Central North Rugby Union (CNRU) action at Gunnedah Rugby Club. Following a 54-0 victory against an inexperienced Quirindi outfit in round one a week earlier, the Red Devils were outplayed by the club which finished runner-up last year. Sports journalist says farewell

This is my final edition as sports journalist of the Gunnedah Times, following a little over 18 months in the role. I’ve accepted a position in my home state of Queensland, and I’m heading that way on the weekend before starting my new role next week. It really has been a pleasure to serve the Gunnedah community, while focusing on the sports scene. Improved Red Devils fall short

The Gunnedah Red Devils recorded back-to-back defeats but performed much better on the latter occasion, as they went down 34-29 to the Tamworth Pirates in last Saturday’s Central North Rugby Union (CNRU) tussle at Gunnedah Rugby Club. With the Red Devils coming off a disappointing 56-33 loss to reigning premier Quirindi while the Pirates came off a 24-22 loss to Inverell, both teams at Gunnedah Rugby Club sought a breakthrough win last Saturday.
