Gunnedah turned a fiercely contested opening into a convincing 21-point victory over Inverell, running out 6.5 (41) to 2.8 (20) winners. The match was a pressure-filled battle from the opening bounce, with congestion around the ball and committed defensive efforts from both sides making clean forward entries difficult. Gunnedah Rugby League Football Club has broken an almost 30-year premiership drought to reclaim the Group 4 first grade title.   In front of a home crowd at Kitchener Park, the Bulldogs were a dominant force throughout Saturday’s clash with the Moree Boars to win their eighth premiership and the first since 1998.   It was firmly the ‘Dogs’ Day’ after they earlier claimed the women’s tackle grand final.
