Gunnedah’s Rebecca Sams might be only in her teens but the Gunnedah mountain bike rider is already leading the charge on the domestic competition circuit.
Sams and Leon Hystek of Tamworth recently travelled to Mt Stromlo in Canberra for round two of the Rocky Trail Entertainment Fox Superflow Series.
The series, which involves six rounds over several months, featured more than 600 riders for round two including some of the sport’s leading competitors.
Fourteen-year-old Sams won the under-17 women’s division and Hystek won the under-17 men.
The race format included six and a half hours to achieve the fastest time on three challenging downhill tracks – it was a maximum of five descents for each track.
Riders were also required to complete each ascent as part of the challenge.
Garry Turner said the youngster, who is riding a new Giant Reign advanced 29’er mountain bike, is step above the rest.
“We are very pleased to see the way Bec is riding so well and winning a big event like this, competing against the best riders in the state,” Garry said.
