Hundreds gathered at the Gunnedah Kennel Club  grounds last Sunday to take advantage of Harvest Gunnedah.

The festival encouraged people to celebrate the region’s food and noteworthy qualities.

Harvest Gunnedah was supported by NSW Reconnecting Regional Communities Fund and hosted by the Gunnedah Shire Council.

The cold weather could not keep away families eager to venture outside.

Gunnedah Shire Council manager of economy and growth, Susan Frater-Sims, mentioned how well received the event was.

“We had two gates and we had people flooding through,” she said.

There were more than 1000 people who came to the event.

“I think it was a tremendous day,” she said.

“We are appreciative to the community for turning up.”

A variety of entertainment was available from pony rides for the children to local musicians taking the stage for the adults.

“It really created that festival atmosphere,” Susan said.

Organisers captured the harvest theme with hay bales for a picnic-style lunch and a country backdrop for photos.

“[There was] lots of hay bales and tables and chairs. People could move the bales and sit in their group,” she said.

Several hot food options were available to warm event-goers for the four hours it was open.

Many small business stalls were open with a variety of items for people strolling by.

Handcrafted pieces and produce were on display to capture the region’s skills.

Community celebration was a theme among the festival with commitments to encourage shire residents to stop by.

Free shuttle buses were available on the day for local residents at Carroll and Curlewis.
