Can Assist Gunnedah has gratefully accepted a cheque for $5000 from Club Gunnedah to assist with advertising the group’s benefit program for local cancer patients and their families on the big screen at the local cinema.
Interim general manager John Campbell said the grant is part of the Clubs NSW requirement to deliver 1.85 per cent of gaming machine profits into the community.
“Over the past year we have donated $50,000 in community grants,” he said.
“Other community groups are encouraged to apply.”
Can Assist president Kate Knight and secretary Linda Lee expressed their sincere appreciation to the club as they spread information about support available for cancer patients to assist with the financial burden of receiving treatment in bigger centres.
“We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs,” Kate Knight said.
“We service the areas of Boggabri, Carroll, Curlewis, Gunnedah and Mullaley but we would not exist without our members, volunteers and community supporters. We thank them for their contribution.”
