Every summer the Pilliga forest seems to catch alight. I spoke to a parks and wildlife officer some time ago and suggested, as I have many times, to crisscross the forest with fire breaks, she said, quote: ‘we are here to protect the flora and fauna, not kill it with bulldozers’. This time 590 square kilometres burnt. How many natives died?
It makes one ponder about the intellect of these people.
