Business grants on ice for Gunnedah shire

Gunnedah Shire Council’s Business Partner Program, described as “unwieldly” and even a “waste of time”, has been shelved. The council-funded, business grant program was temporarily suspended at council’s last ordinary meeting, pending a decision about potential changes to program guidelines. It was agreed this decision would be made after the council election with new elected representatives. It followed an unfavourable report into the business program’s efficacy which said it delivered “limited” economic growth in Gunnedah – a core principal behind the grants. Speech Pathology Week: Communicate your way

Speech Pathology Week was held last week and speech pathologist Cass Hinchcliffe from Gunnedah, highlighted the theme: ‘Communicate Your Way’. “Communication is a basic human right, and many children can’t make the most of their educational, health and social opportunities without the assistance of a speech pathologist,” Cass said. Cass has been working in local schools since 2016, and knows first-hand the challenges that some students with communication disabilities can experience. Gunnedah’s Leah Keam ready to ‘light up’ world ninja stage

Gunnedah’s Leah Keam is preparing to attend the World Ninja Athlete Games in the United States next month. Competing at the Anaheim Convention Centre, the Year 8, St Mary’s College Gunnedah student is currently ranked first in the NSW Under 13 Female division and fourth in Australia. ‘Light It Up Leah’ as she is known in ninja athlete circles, will be competing in the UNAA – Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association; OCR – Obstacle Course Racing and FINA – Federation of International Ninja Athletics.
