Gunnedah had a first placegetter and three runners-up at the first North West Regional Matchplay Series (RMS) tennis event, which took place in Armidale on Sunday February 9.
Thirteen Gunnedah players encountered strong opposition as there were 69 junior and open players from across the region.
Gunnedah’s Belle Nichols claimed victory in the U10 girls division as she defeated fellow local competitor Charli Scott 6-3 in the final.
Sophie Neilsen secured the runner-up spot in the U16 girls, and Jonty Nichols was runner-up in the U8 boys.
The remainder of the Gunnedah contingent comprised Camden Muddle, Allie Neilsen, Molly Murphy, Katie Mitchell, Balin Muddle, Adalie Muddle, Phoebe Neilsen, Arjun Jayaraman and Harry Tudgey.
Meanwhile, local young gun Lachlan Finnerty showcased his talent at the Newcastle RMS event as he won the U10 boys division with a commanding 6-1 victory in the final.
The next North West RMS event will be in Tamworth this Sunday, giving players another chance to gain valuable match experience in a structured yet supportive environment.
