Gunnedah’s U11 representative cricketers were gallant in defeat as they concluded their season with a fixture at the Armidale-based Newling Oval last Sunday.

The home side accumulated 139 runs for the loss of four wickets in 30 overs, while the visitors made 8-126 in their allotted overs.

The sundries count was high as Armidale benefited from 48 ‘extras’ while Gunnedah received 36 ‘extras’.

As per usual in this age group, one team batted for 15 overs and then bowled 15 overs before resuming batting and then reverting to bowling.

Armidale was 3-80 after 15 overs, following a wicket each to Nate Partridge, Jack Wright and Lachlan Finnerty.

Gunnedah lost a wicket first ball and then slipped to 2-2 later in the first over, before becoming 3-6 in the fourth over.

Gunnedah was 5-47 after 15 overs, before producing a comeback in the second half of proceedings.

Armidale made 1-59 in the second half of its innings, with Tom Simpson finishing on 30 not out while Conor Coffey and Patrick Duff also made vital runs.

Lucy Semmler claimed a wicket for Gunnedah, which went on to make 3-79 in its latter 15 overs.

Nate top-scored with 32 not out while Jack, Rex Plevey, Chase Herbert and Nathaniel Ruttley made scores between 11 and 19.

Armidale 4-139 (Tom Simpson 30 not out) defeated Gunnedah 8-126 (Nate Partridge 32 not out; Alexander D 3-14) by 13 runs.
