Gunnedah Speedway Club had several triumphant drivers last Saturday night as the club hosted the NSW 4 Cylinder Title at the Blue Vale Speedway venue, as part of ‘Weeks of Speed’.

Nearly 30 cars took to the track for the heats, with 22 racing for the title as drivers came from places including Gunnedah, Narrabri, Tamworth, Dubbo, Gilgandra, Lismore, Orange, Newcastle, Portland and Toowoomba.

After the heat delayed the start by an hour to benefit the drivers and their safety, only one restart was required all night while there were some mechanical failures but no racing-related car damage.

A spokesperson from Gunnedah Speedway Club said the event was “one of the best races flag to flag – 30 laps of non-stop dirt track entertainment”.

“Credit to local track promoter Barry Towers and his team for all their hard work preparing the track under extreme conditions,” the spokesperson said.

Jackson Gordon of Narrabri took out first place in the 4 Cylinder Standard division, followed by Joel Eagleston of Dubbo and Keith Urquhart of Gilgandra.

Gunnedah’s highest achiever in this main race was Dean Platt, who placed eighth.

Brodie King of Casino won the 4 Cylinder Modified division while Orange duo Kiel Swadling and Joel Swadling occupied the next two places.

In the Street Stockers it was a clean sweep for the Keeler family with Trent coming first, Todd second and their dad Kevin third. Although from Narrabri, these three are members of the Gunnedah Speedway Club.

In the Fender Benders, Boggabri-based Gunnedah Speedway Club member Jeremy Keynes finished on top and was followed

by Newcastle duo Simon Sepos and Joel Kiem.

The top three placegetters in the Super Sedans were Dion Bennett (Narrabri), Garry Burgess (Gunnedah) and Brett Smith (Newcastle).

Gunnedah members Sophie Partridge and Tilly Cronin occupied the top two spots in the Junior New Stars, as it was Sophie’s second time on top of the podium while it was Tilly’s highest placing to date.

Hunter Smith of Narrabri won the All Stars division, with Dubbo’s Zac Walker the runner-up and Gunnedah’s Bailey Jackson the third placegetter.
