OPINION: Money can’t buy happiness but it can certainly help.
Glancing over the social news this week, I read how Matildas football star Mary Fowler post-career would like a big family, lots of kids and a property with animals.
The girlfriend to NRL Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary, Fowler mused how her prospective children would be happily playing in mud – carefree.
Forgetting about the well-paid sporting careers of this glamour couple, the first thing that came to my mind was the financial burden – ‘have they thought how they’re going to afford a big family?’
Then my attention immediately turned to the mud clean up – how is she going to bath all the children, feed the animals, make dinner and clean up, make and organise school lunches for tomorrow, vacuum the house, order click and collect groceries, fold and put the clothes away while prepping another load of washing? That’s before she helps with the school homework, makes sure piano practice is attended to and sends second youngest child to time-out for the umpteenth time that afternoon, among other duties – all this while hubby-to-be Cleary is on the other side of the world for a brand endorsement of the latest football boot.
Could be achieved on their own I guess, but it won’t be easier. Then again, high-paying football salaries would certainly help.
