The Gunfight at Gunnedah event was a big occasion for Tim Wales of Quirindi, as he drove a 1977 Chrysler Charger for the second time.

The first occasion he drove the soon-to-be 50-year-old vehicle was also at the Gunnedah Airport, in March.

The car was stored in a shed at Tamworth for 34 years after it was regularly raced in the 1980s and was also used for regular driving.

The vehicle was most recently painted in 1987 and has had a new motor and gearbox installed in the past four years.

Tim said he drove the vehicle for the sake of its owner; his mate Byron Hiscock who is unable to drive but has a strong involvement with cars.

“I love cars, and I enjoy the adrenaline,” Tim said.

“(Driving the car) felt massively powerful compared to what I’m used to.”
