About $11,000 was raised to support local youth programs, as PCYC Gunnedah staged its annual charity golf day at the Gunnedah course last Sunday.
The 4-person Ambrose event featured about 130 golfers, with many regular local golfers joined by some non-golfers as well as PCYC Gunnedah activities officer Harry Ryman.
Other PCYC Gunnedah staff worked behind the barbecue, as steak sandwiches were a popular lunch option.
The winning team comprised Joshua Ryan, Brad Swain, Tiffany Adams and Jay Urquhart while the runners-up were Lachlan Fleming, Dan Percy, Chris Mooney and Troy Burtenshaw.
Nearest-the-pin and Straightest Drive competitions added to the friendly rivalry and enjoyment throughout the day, while Harry helped his team secure the Best Dressed title.
More than 80 prizes were up for grabs at the raffle, with major items including a bike and helmet, a kayak, electrical items, toys, meat trays, hams and gifts donated by local businesses.
There was also an auction for a bar fridge.
PCYC Gunnedah club manager Jessica Blair said the generosity from sponsors, donors and participants at the charity golf day would help PCYC Gunnedah continue to make a positive difference for local youth and the wider community.
“As a registered charity, PCYC relies heavily on community support to continue delivering programs and activities that engage, inspire and support young people,” she said.
Jessica said the charity golf day was “a really good way to connect with the local community and businesses”, while “it’s about bringing everyone together”.
Jessica said the golf event also helped spread the word that the PCYC wasn’t all about dealing with “troubled youth” but was “inclusive for everyone” and had a lot to offer people of all ages and backgrounds.
