Gunnedah-based tennis player Charli Scott earned a runner-up placing in the 10 and Under (10&U) girls singles division at the recent J125 J250 Mal Anderson Junior Championships at the Sunshine Coast Tennis Centre.

Charli was in Group A, as she was the number one seed among the eight 10&U girls who were split into two groups.

The Gunnedah product won her first fixture 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 before winning her next encounter 6-0, 6-3 on the same day, and she completed the round-robin phase undefeated when she triumphed 6-2, 6-2 on day two.

The three successive victories enabled Charli to reach the final on day three, while her opponent was the top placegetter from Group B.

Charli put her best foot forward but was unable to win a set in the final after her talented opponent, Nicole Yuan, had won 6-4, 6-0 in round one, then 6-0, 6-0 in round two, and 6-0, 6-1 in round three.

Despite the result in the final, Charli learned a lot throughout the three days as she tested herself against players from the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

This was the second time Charli competed at the Sunshine Coast, having won both the 10&U girls singles and mixed doubles at the Tewantin Junior Championships at the Tewantin Noosa Tennis Club a few months earlier.

Charli has also accepted an invitation to be part of the NSW Super 10s; a prestigious invitation-only group which trains in Sydney each week.
