Gunnedah Day VIEW Club members welcomed published author Jade Punch to their February dinner meeting and presented a certificate of appreciation to Shirley Hall recognising her many years of service on committee.
In her 43 years of membership, Shirley has served in many positions including president, vice-president and program officer.
Jade Punch spoke about her journey through life suffering with a mould-related illness, which involved having to watch her diet closely as the wrong foods could affect her greatly.
She told funny stories about growing up and “having a baby brother she didn’t want”.
She also recalled blaming the wind for many childhood misdemeanours instead of owning up and spoke about the books she has written, including children’s books.
Vice-president Chris Mirow offered a vote of thanks to Jade in appreciation and new member Fran Dunn was welcomed during the luncheon meeting at the Railway Hotel.
Members will be hosting a morning tea at Oak Tree Retirement Village raising funds for the club’s Learning for Life students.
“These gatherings are always very well attended by members, Oak Tree residents and friends,” president Joan Harwood said.
A certificate of appreciation was presented to Alona Pryor for 100 per cent attendance last year and also acknowledging her dedication to selling raffle tickets at each meeting.
Several members attended the VIEW zone celebration of International Women’s Day in Tamworth last Saturday, with inspirational guest speaker Dr Kate Bricknell talking about her journey towards establishing Crossroads Education.
Widowed at a young age, Dr Bricknell began the education hub in the garage f her home.
Day VIEW president Joan Harwood was invited to lead the VIEW pledge.
Members also heard from two Learning for Life students, sisters Emma and Jody Peters, who have completed their education after
receiving sponsorship through The Smith Family charity’s education program sponsored by VIEW Clubs across Australia.
The luncheon at Wests Tamworth was a chance to catch up with fellow VIEW members from across the region.
