Spotlight: SETS IN MARCH

Our guest speaker for the Senior Engagement Talk for March is Mick Rankmore, who will talk about bee-keeping and the various hive products that result.

Approximately 80 per cent of the flowering plants on earth require the help of pollinators, such as bees, for survival. Come and join the library on Monday, March 16 at 12.00pm to learn all about these important creatures. It is set to be a buzzing conversation!

Did you know that there are over 2000 species of native bees found in Australia, plus a few introduced species like the European honeybee?

If you want to attract more bees to your garden – they’re great for the veggie patch – or care for the busy little workers already there, the library has books that can help.

They can teach you which plants will keep your bees fed, what habitat will provide them a happy home, and to identify which species are visiting.

Look for them in our Environment or Gardening sections!

Spotlight: NEW BOOKS

Nightingale (AFA ELV) by Laura Elvery, is her first foray into fiction.

It is 1910 and, at the age of ninety, Florence Nightingale is frail and no longer of sound mind.

She leads a largely reclusive existence but is surprised to be visited one evening by a young man, Silas, who claims to have met her during the Crimean War – fifty-five years earlier.

Nicholas Sparks has partnered with award-winning director M. Night Shyamalan to produce their new novel Remain (AFR SPA).

Tate Donovan arrives in Cape Cod to make a fresh start after losing his beloved sister.

Her deathbed revelation has changed the ways he sees his family’s past.

And when he meets young and beautiful Wren, she will expose a festering world of hatred, jealousy, and greed in the small town.

The Shepherd’s Life (BIOG 942 REB) by James Rebanks, is the story of a life lived by the seasons.

The routine of his rural holding has little changed for hundreds of years, offering an account of fundamental connection with the land that most people have lost.

Many memoirs are of people working desperately to leave a place; this is the story of someone trying desperately hard to stay.
