Fun, fundraising and a tight finish were the order of last Friday night as the Gunnedah Bulldogs AFL club held a trivia night at Gunnedah High School.

With anything from three to eight people per team as 10 teams competed, Smart Assets took out top spot with 38 points while Blue Heelers finished on 37.

These two teams were on 30 points with one round remaining while Overkoalified Experts were on 32, but the then top-placed team stumbled in the final round.

The winners received beanies and scarves while the runners-up received vouchers.

Nerieda Ewington won the award for best dressed, having dressed as Shane Warne.

Each of the five rounds comprised 10 questions as topics were logos with a twist, general knowledge, sport, this and that, and anagrams.

Anagrams involved famous names, with ‘wet sink tale’ being Kate Winslet; ‘no brains on a date’ being Antonio Banderas; ‘red rich rage’ being Richard Gere; ‘so relax’ being Axl Rose; ‘baby not tot’ being Tony Abbott; and ‘library woman’ being Barry Manilow.

There were also games of heads or tails, true or false, musical chairs, throwing a thong at a bottle of rum, and a boat race.

All up, about $1200 was raised thanks to the input from sponsors and participants.

One of the event organisers was Gunnedah Poochettes AFL player Alexa Walker, who said the club aimed to host at least one of these events each year.

“It’s not just a social event but a fundraiser as well,” she said.

“We’re aiming for new lighting at Wolseley Park, and any money that can go towards that is welcome.”

Alexa said she and fellow event organisers Abbey Ruttley and Braie Devine really enjoyed the camaraderie and the crowd involvement, while the attendees enjoyed the event as well.

“The overall positive vibe among the club was on show,” Alexa said.
