Spotlight: National Volunteer Week & Make It!
National Volunteer Week is celebrated between May 19-25. Did you know that more than six million Australians dedicate time to causes they love? A few of them volunteer in our very own library!
Our second Make It! of the month will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at 3.30pm. Woollen dogs will be the feature of this craft afternoon and spots are filling fast. Call us on (02) 6740 2190 to book in for this $3 session.
Spotlight: A spot of gardening
For the green and not-so-green thumbs, visit our gardening section. We have books on germination, pollination, yard design, indestructible plants (very handy, indeed), house plants, veggie gardens, soil distribution, Gardening by Cuisine (that’s a real title), plus many more. You’ll be a wealth of horticultural knowledge at the next block barbecue.
Spotlight: New books
Romancing Miss Stone (AFR VAU) by M. C. Vaughan is new to our romance section.
Bo Ferguson has his future all planned. Then his archaeologist fiancée dumps him. Via text. From Belize. Navigating the rainforest to win her back is way out of Bo’s comfort zone, but so is the idea of starting over. Fortunately, he’s secured a tour guide willing to lead him into the unmapped jungle. Unfortunately, she’s annoying, impulsive — and attractive as hell….
From author Emilia Hart comes The Sirens (AFA HAR).
Lucy is running and there’s only one person who might understand: her sister Jess. But when she arrives at the desolate cliff-top house, Jess is gone. Lucy is now alone, in a strange town steeped in rumour. Stories of men disappearing without a trace. A foundling discovered in a sea-swept cave. And women’s voices murmuring on the waves…
New to junior fiction is Mayowa and the Sea of Words (JF ONU) by Chibundu Onuzo.
Ten-year-old Mayowa has always thought that her Grandpa Edward, who dyes his beard emerald green and jumps on books in private, is rather unusual too. Until one day she jumps on a book for herself, and uncovers a huge family secret … she’s a logosalter. But Mayowa and her grandpa aren’t the only logosalters in existence. And not everybody wants to use this power for good …
We have plenty of books to jump into at 291 Conadilly Street. Come and see for yourself!
New titles now available at Gunnedah Shire Library include The Sirens by Emilia Hart and romance novel Romancing Miss Stone by MC Vaughan.
