Gunnedah had four winners and two runners-up at the West Tamworth courts last Sunday in round nine of the North West Regional Matchplay (RMS) tennis series.

Zahra Scott, Millie Lyle, Lachlan Finnerty and Adalie Muddle were Gunnedah’s top placegetters while Charli Scott and Sophie Neilsen were second placegetters.

Gunnedah’s other competitors were Daisy Baker, Maggie Gardner, Aimee Hobden, Jazmin Hobden, Balin Muddle, Allie Neilsen, Phoebe Neilsen and Harry Tudgey, each of whom played some high-quality tennis.

Other competitors came from Tamworth, Narrabri, Armidale, Inverell and Moree as usual.

In the U8 girls, Zahra’s win was her fifth in the series while the runner-up was one of her regular rivals: Francesca Prior of Tamworth.

The U10 girls division was another case of Gunnedah rivalry, as Millie won for the sixth time while it was the fourth time Charli placed second. On three of those four occasions, Charli was the runner-up to Millie while the other occasion involved a win for another Gunnedah competitor: Belle Nichols.

Lachlan’s win last Sunday was his second in the U12 boys division, having also won the U10 boys division once.

In the U12 girls, Adalie secured top spot for the first time after being the runner-up in round six.

Sophie achieved second place for the third time in the U16 girls, having also recorded four victories.

The final round will be in Narrabri this Sunday.
