Gunnedah’s fourth grade soccer team continues its finals surge in the Tamworth competition this Friday night, with a clash against the Hillvue Rovers at the Gipps Street Sporting Complex.
Having placed fourth in the six-team competition, Gunnedah beat the third-placed North Companions 1-0 in week one of finals last Friday while the top-placed Moore Creek defeated the second-placed Hillvue 2-0.
With Gunnedah and Norths fighting to avoid elimination last Friday, a tough 90-minute contest unfolded while the result was in doubt until the final whistle.
Shane Roberts scored the lone goal with a sublime solo effort from outside the 18-yard box in the 54th minute.
Gunnedah held firm while there was some great outfield teamwork led by Matt Davis, Jayden Thomas and Cody Auld.
The energetic youth of Victor Bueno Gomes and Jimmy Grant was impressive throughout the match.
