The Gunnedah Times has been recognised at the Country Press NSW – 2025 Awards of Excellence.

Journalist Liam Hauser was commended for two contributions in the sports pages of the Gunnedah publication.

One commendation was for his “Best Sports Photograph” contribution which featured Mr Hauser’s photograph from a local Aussie Rules match. The photo in a prominent position in the sport section highlighted the skill of local players in the area, particularly in a male-dominated sport.

Mr Hauser was also commended for his editorial about challenges faced by match referees in sport, particularly those performing duties in a volunteer capacity. The editorial was in reference to the main story on the same page which provided a local referee the opportunity to share their experiences.

Meanwhile, an advertisement by the Gunnedah Times was highly commended in the “Best Locally Produced Print Advertisement” category.

Designed by Gunnedah Times’ Noel Browne, the advertisement featured local business Carpet Court and included team photos and personal quotes.

Gunnedah Carpet Court shows real people behind the business, making it relatable and authentic. The clear headline and friendly design draw readers in.

Meanwhile updates on new products and store expansion deliver the sales message naturally, balancing storytelling with promotion, leaving a strong, community-focused impression.

The Best Paid Newspaper category was won by the Gunnedah Times’sister paper, The Courier.

This follows the Times’ 2024 win in the category and The Courier’s 2022 and 2023 titles.
